Out with the old drive

Concrete Driveways in Stickney, Torn Out and Poured New

One crew breaks out the old drive, builds a better base, pours the new slab and sweeps the street before leaving.

Why Old Driveways Break Up

Driveways around here fail in a few familiar ways. Sunk by the garage door. Cracked into plates across the middle. Crumbling at the alley or the street where plows and salt hit hardest. Almost every time, the problem started underneath: a thin base, soft soil, or water that sat under the slab and froze. Patching the top does not touch any of that, so we replace. The crew breaks out the old drive and hauls it off. With the dirt exposed, we can see what went wrong, and we dig out the soft spots. Stone comes in and gets compacted in layers, deeper than what was there before when the ground calls for it. Forms get set so water runs toward the street or the alley, never back at the garage. A driveway slab goes in thicker than a walk or patio, since it carries a car every day and a snow pile all winter, and reinforcement gets concentrated where tires turn and at the apron. We broom the surface for traction, cut joints spaced for the width, and keep the new slab covered and damp while it cures. You get told plainly when you can walk on it and when you can park on it. Then forms come out, edges get backfilled and the street gets swept. Same crew, start to finish.

What Driveway Replacement Includes

Reinforcement where tires twist and at the apron.

  • Broomed and jointed

Grip for winter and joints spaced to the width.

  • Straight talk on cure time

When to walk, when to park.

Old Drive Out, New Drive In

  1. Measure and quote

We measure, check the slope and drainage and give you a written number for removal, base, thickness, steel and finish.

  2. Demo and base

Old drive broken out and hauled, soft ground dug away, stone compacted, forms set to drain.

  3. Pour and cleanup

Slab poured, broomed and jointed, kept covered while it cures. Forms out, edges backfilled, street swept.
